Kaya

Kaya - coffee table by Wewood

Kaya is a set of two coffee tables conceived as a quiet, intimate space for objects, rituals and those moments of tranquillity that mark the time between one activity and another. In the philosophy of the Japanese tea ceremony, Sadō, there is a principle that goes far beyond the simple act of preparing and serving tea: attention. The way an object is placed, the quality of a surface, the pause before speaking. Kaya was born from this very spirit: a set of tables that do not seek to attract attention, but reward those who take the time to appreciate them.

The name captures its meaning with understated precision. In Japanese, Kaya evokes a place of peace and rest, a home, but also refers to a type of natural wood, one of the most elemental materials. Both meanings are reflected in the object. Kaya is simultaneously a surface and a shelter, a functional furnishing element and a carefully considered design piece.

The construction draws inspiration from the tradition of fine cabinetmaking. Structural joints define the entire design: visible connections that ensure strength while enhancing the natural grain of the wood, available in oak or walnut. The design pays attention not only to shapes and lines, but also to the spaces created between them.

The combination of wood and marble, enhanced by a refined brass detail, creates a discreet and harmonious material language. Each element has its own purpose: the warmth of wood, the coolness and weight of marble, and the precise glimmer of brass. Materials that age in different ways, yet always gracefully, developing character through use and the passage of time.

Used individually or together, the two coffee tables adapt to different spatial needs and interior design sensibilities. Available in two shapes and sizes, round and oval, they always maintain the same attention to proportion and material authenticity. Whether placed at the centre of a living room or beside a seating area, they blend naturally into their surroundings, as though they had always been there.

In every detail, Kaya is a reflection on the meaning of a surface: a space capable of holding not only objects, but also intentions.
